Opening remarks of Yu Yu, UN Uzbekistan RC a.i. at International conference: “Uzbekistan — Five years of fast-paced reforms”
On behalf of the UNCT, I would like to congratulate the organization of the international conference on 5 years of fast-paced reforms in Uzbekistan.
Let me congratulate the Government of Uzbekistan with many profound results achieved in a short time span, many of which will be presented today.
There is a saying that ‘study the past if you would define the future’. The conference today came at the right time to reflect on the success, progress, experiences as well as challenges and lessons so that the future people centered reforms will continue and go deeper and wider.
Ladies and gentlemen,
The UN also embarked on a reform to support the global to deliver the 2030 Agenda, namely the sustainable development goals.
The Secretary General launched a global report in September with a title of Our Common Agenda, to reflect from the past and set vision and pathway for the future.
The Report contains recommendations across 4 broad areas for renewed solidarity between peoples and future generations, a new social contract anchored in human rights, better management of critical global commons, and global public goods that deliver equitably and sustainably for all.
The Secretary General calls on the member states to:
strengthen global governance and multilateralism;
focus on the future generations and young people;
renew the social contract; and
ensure a UN fit for a new era.
This resonates very well with the vision and aspiration of the Uzbekistan reforms which was also highlighted in the speech of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan during the 76th session of the General Assembly in September.
We commend Uzbekistan for championing multilateralism. The amazing participation of over 35,000 people in Uzbekistan in the UN75 anniversary last year testifies to the profound belief in Uzbekistan in joint solutions to common problems.
We support your vision in investing in the future generation, the young people, in promoting green and inclusive recovery from the pandemic, in transforming the gender paradigm, and in your attention to HR and the vulnerable population, to name a few.
As a collective, with 25 UN entities and the UNSDCF as the instrument, we offer our expertise, knowledge, knowhows, and regional and global platforms that are SDG centered.
We extend our partnership with the national and international partners, including IFIs, CSOs and especially the young people, for the achievement of the national sustainable development goals and the next generation development blueprint in making that embraces these goals.
I am confident that our ongoing fruitful cooperation will continue to achieve results for the people of Uzbekistan striving towards a more just, equal, and resilient society by 2030, for the regional peace, connectivity and prosperity, for the global solidarity to the common good, and for a stronger and fit-for-purpose UN.
I look forward to learning more from the inspiring speakers today and wish all a successful conference.
