VIdeo: Ice Stupa technology introduced in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is addressing increasing water scarcity caused by climate change and declining precipitation through a new pilot project in the Sarchashma mahalla of the Shahrisabz district.

The initiative utilizes "Ice Stupa" (artificial glacier) technology, which harvests and freezes water during the winter to store it as ice. This water is then gradually released during the spring and summer months to support irrigation and household needs in rural and foothill areas.

The project’s progress was recently reviewed by high-level officials from the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, the FAO, and local government representatives, signaling a significant step toward adaptive water management in the region.
